Hostess Maize meal bread


  • Sunflower oil for greasing
  • 200g Hostess maize meal
  • 75g plain white flour
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tbsp. caster sugar
  • 300ml milk
  • 25g butter, melted
  • 1 egg


  1. Preheat the oven to 190˚C. Grease the ovenproof dish with the sunflower oil.
  2. Place the Hostess maize meal in a large bowl. Sift the white flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar into the Hostess and stir together, making a well in the center. Whisk together the milk, butter, and egg and pour it into the well, mixing to form a batter. Pour the batter into dish the dish, and smooth the surface.
  3. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is browned around the edges and a skewer inserted into the center out clean.
  4. Cut the bread into squares and serve clean.
